Announced September 9 and released September 19, 2025, the iPhone Air replaced the iPhone 16 Plus as the larger, more design-focused option in the line-up, though it takes a very different approach to get there. At just 5.6mm thick, it's the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever made, thinner even than the iPhone 6, and weighs only 165 grams. To achieve that, Apple switched to a titanium frame, something previously reserved for the Pro models, with Ceramic Shield 2 covering both the front and back. It comes in four finishes: Space Black, Cloud White, Light Gold and Sky Blue, and starts at $999 for 256GB, with 512GB and 1TB options above that.

To fit everything into such a thin body, the Air makes one clear trade-off: a single 48MP rear camera rather than the multi-lens setup on other models, with no ultra-wide or dedicated telephoto lens. What it doesn't skimp on is power, it runs the same A19 Pro chip found in the Pro models, paired with 12GB of memory, more than the standard iPhone 17's 8GB. The 6.5-inch display also gains ProMotion's adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz and an always-on mode, features that used to be Pro-exclusive.

It's also the first iPhone with no physical SIM tray anywhere in the world, relying entirely on eSIM, and it debuts two new Apple-designed chips: the N1 for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and the C1X, a more capable version of the cellular modem that first appeared in the iPhone 16e. 

Apple says it delivers "all day" battery life despite the ultra-thin body, though hasn't published an exact battery capacity or hours figure.
