Macbook Neo

Unveiled March 4 and shipping from March 11, 2026, the Apple Macbook Neo is the cheapest Macbook Apple has ever sold, starting at $599 ($499 for students and educators). 

It borrows its shape from the classic wedge-style MacBook Air design and comes in four colours, Blush, Citrus, Indigo and Silver, a first for a modern MacBook. It's also notable under the hood: rather than one of Apple's own M-series chips, it runs on an A18 Pro, the same chip found in the iPhone 16 Pro, marking the first time an iPhone chip has powered a Mac.

Two configurations are available. The $599 model comes with 256GB of storage and, unusually, skips Touch ID entirely in favour of a plain lock button, while stepping up to $699 gets 512GB and adds Touch ID back in. Both are fixed at 8GB of memory with no option to configure higher. The 13-inch Liquid Retina display reaches 500 nits of brightness, and unlike the MacBook Air, the Magic Keyboard here isn't backlit.

Connectivity is kept deliberately simple: two USB-C ports and a headphone jack, along with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Battery life is rated at up to 16 hours, just two hours short of that year's MacBook Air.
