This Apple TV 4K third generation actually got cheaper rather than pricier: $129 for a 64GB Wi-Fi only model and $149 for a 128GB version with Gigabit Ethernet and Thread smart home support built in, down from $179 and $199 on the previous model, while storage doubled at the entry level.

The new A15 chip, the same one used in that year's iPhone 13 line, delivered around 50% faster CPU performance and 30% faster graphics over the previous A12 chip. It was efficient enough that Apple dropped the internal cooling fan entirely, making this the first fanless Apple TV, thinner, lighter, and using roughly 30% less power than before. On the picture quality side, it added support for HDR10+ alongside the existing Dolby Vision and HDR10 formats, which matters mainly for owners of TVs, common among Samsung, TCL and Philips sets, that support HDR10+ but not Dolby Vision.

The Siri Remote looked and felt identical to the redesigned one that came with the previous generation, but switched its charging port from Lightning to USB-C, matching the direction the rest of Apple's product line was heading.
