Notes

Apple did something unusual with the MacBook Air with M4: it made it cheaper. The 13-inch dropped $100 to $999, the 15-inch to $1,199, and education pricing fell to $899 and $1,099. Previous generations had kept the entry price down by continuing to sell the older model alongside; this time the new machine simply took the lower price itself.

A new colour arrived too. Sky blue, a metallic light blue that shifts as the light catches it, replaced space grey and joined midnight, starlight and silver, each shipping with a MagSafe cable matched to the finish. Otherwise the aluminium body was untouched, carrying on the design introduced with the M2 in 2022.

The M4 chip brought a 10-core processor and up to a 10-core graphics chip, with 16GB of memory as standard and up to 32GB available, which Apple said made it roughly twice as fast as the M1 model. A new 12MP Center Stage camera kept people framed during video calls and added Desk View, showing the speaker and a top-down view of their desk at once.

The machine could also drive two external 6K displays alongside its own screen, where earlier models managed one.

Battery life stayed at up to 18 hours, and the fanless design meant it ran silently. It was announced on 5 March 2025 and reached customers on 12 March 2025.
