Notes
The iPod classic cost $249 for 80GB and $349 for 160GB, and took the name “classic” because Apple had just put the touchscreen iPod on sale beside it. The case changed from plastic to anodised aluminium with a polished stainless steel back, and the whole thing got thinner.
Battery life doubled at the top of the range. The 160GB iPod classic managed forty hours of music and seven of video, against twenty and six and a half from the model before it.
Cover Flow was introduced on the iPod with this model, so an album could be found by flicking through its artwork rather than reading down a list.
It was announced on 5 September 2007 at the ‘The Beat Goes On’ event in San Francisco. There were no pre-orders, and Apple put it on sale worldwide the same day, priced from $249.
