Notes

The iPad Air (M2) was sold in two sizes for the first time in the line’s history, an 11-inch and a 13-inch with 30% more screen area. The larger one cost $200 more, and both used the same M2 chip, which Apple said was nearly 50% faster than the M1 in the previous Air.

Apple described the 11-inch model as redesigned, though it measured 247.6mm by 178.5mm by 6.1mm, the same figures as the model before it. What changed was the front camera, which moved from the short edge to the long one, so it sits in the middle of the frame when the tablet is turned sideways for a video call.

Support for the second-generation Apple Pencil was dropped, so the iPad Air (M2) took either the new Apple Pencil Pro at $129 or the Apple Pencil with USB-C at $79, and anyone upgrading from the previous model needed a new one.

Storage doubled at the bottom of the range, from 64GB to 128GB, with 512GB and 1TB offered on an iPad Air for the first time. Four colours were sold: blue, purple, starlight and space grey.

It was announced on 7 May 2024 at the ‘Let Loose’ event. Orders opened the same day, while it was released to shops on 15 May, priced from $599.

The model it replaced was the iPad Air (5th generation).
