Notes

The iPad Air (M4) held its starting price while gaining the M4 chip, which Apple said was up to 30% faster than the M3 in the previous model and more than twice as quick as the M1 from 2022. Memory went up by half, from 8GB to 12GB.

Apple’s own wireless chips were introduced on the iPad Air with this model. The N1 handles Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread, while cellular versions carry the C1X modem, which Apple claimed moved data up to 50% faster than the M3 model while drawing up to 30% less power.

The iPad Air (M4) measured 247.6mm by 178.5mm by 6.1mm in its 11-inch size, the same figures as every iPad Air since 2020, and came in the same four colours of blue, purple, starlight and space grey. The Magic Keyboard and both Apple Pencils carried over unchanged, the keyboard now offered in black as well as white.

Two sizes were sold as before, the 13-inch costing $200 more than the 11-inch, with storage from 128GB to 1TB on either.

It was announced on 2 March 2026 in a press release rather than at an event. Pre-orders opened on 4 March, while it was released to shops on 11 March, priced from $599.

The model it replaced was the iPad Air (M3).
