Notes
The iPod touch (7th generation) cost $199 and was the third in a row to use the same body, the same 4-inch screen and the same two cameras. The A10 Fusion chip was the reason it existed, which Apple put at twice the speed of the model before it and three times as fast for graphics.
That extra power brought two things to an iPod for the first time. Group FaceTime meant several people could be on a video call at once, and augmented reality apps would run, which needed more processing than any previous iPod could manage.
Storage went to 256GB at the top of the range, the largest an iPod ever held and eight times what the first iPod touch had offered in 2007. The iPod touch (7th generation) also came in 32GB at $199 and 128GB at $299.
It stayed on sale for almost three years without a single change, and then Apple ended it. On 10 May 2022 the iPod touch was discontinued, and with it the iPod name after twenty years.
It was announced on 28 May 2019 by press release rather than at an event. Orders opened the same day, while it reached Apple’s shops later that week, priced from $199.
