Notes
The iPod shuffle (4th generation, Late 2012) cost $49 and was the same player as the one before it in a different set of colours. Nothing inside changed: the same 2GB of storage, the same ring of buttons, the same VoiceOver button on the top edge and the same 15 hours of playback.
The range went from five colours to eight. Orange was dropped, purple and yellow were added, and a (PRODUCT)RED version joined them which Apple sold only through its own shops and website. Silver stayed, and the darker grey was now called slate.
The control ring was not the same colour on every model. Silver and slate came with a black ring, and the six brighter colours came with a white one.
Slate lasted a year. In September 2013 Apple replaced it with space grey, which was the only change the iPod shuffle (4th generation, Late 2012) saw in almost three years on sale.
It was announced on 12 September 2012 at the ‘It’s almost here’ event, where the iPhone 5 was the main business. It went on sale the same day, priced at $49.
