Notes
The iPod shuffle (4th generation, Mid 2015) cost $49 and was the last one Apple made. The player itself had not changed since 2010: the same 2GB of storage, the same ring of buttons, the same VoiceOver button on the top edge and the same clip on the back.
The colours changed for the last time. Gold appeared on the shuffle for the first time, and green, yellow and purple were dropped, leaving silver, space grey, gold, blue, pink and a (PRODUCT)RED version. Silver and space grey kept their black control rings while the rest had white ones.
One other thing moved, quietly. The iPod shuffle (4th generation, Mid 2015) would not work with a Mac running OS X 10.6 or a PC running Windows XP or Vista, where the model before it would.
Apple sold it for two more years and then stopped. On 27 July 2017 it was taken off the website along with the iPod nano, which ended every iPod except the touch, and the shuffle had gone twelve and a half years from the first one to the last.
It was announced on 15 July 2015 by press release rather than at an event, as part of a refresh covering the whole iPod range. It went on sale the same day, priced at $49.
