Notes
At $399 the Apple Watch Series 10 was a redesign rather than a year of new sensors. The case grew to 42mm and 46mm and came down to 9.7mm deep, which Apple put at nearly 10% thinner than the Series 7, 8 and 9. Stainless steel disappeared from the range. In its place came polished titanium, which Apple described as aerospace grade, in natural, gold and slate, alongside aluminium in a new jet black plus rose gold and silver.
The screen was new in a way Apple had not tried before. The Apple Watch Series 10 was the first Apple product with a wide-angle OLED display, which Apple said was up to 40% brighter than the Series 9 when viewed from an angle. It reached 2000 nits at its brightest.
Two smaller changes mattered day to day. The speaker could play music and podcasts out loud for the first time, having been limited to calls, Siri and alerts until then. Charging got quicker, with fifteen minutes on the charger worth up to eight hours of use and 80% reached in about half an hour, against a rated 18 hours of battery life.
Sleep apnoea notifications arrived with this generation, looking for signs of the condition in adults who had not been diagnosed. Apple said the feature was still waiting on clearance from the FDA and other health authorities when the watch was announced. The water rating stayed at 50 metres, and a new depth gauge measured down to 6 metres.
Inside was the S10 chip with 64GB of storage.
It was announced on 9 September 2024 at the ‘It’s Glowtime’ event at Apple Park, went up for pre-order the same day and reached shops on 20 September, priced from $399.
