Notes

Apple sold the MacBook Pro (M3) from $1,599, in three chips and two screen sizes. The 14-inch with the plain M3 was the entry model, and the first 14-inch MacBook Pro offered with a standard chip rather than a Pro or Max one. The 14-inch with M3 Pro was $1,999 and the 16-inch started at $2,499, both of which could be specified with the M3 Max instead.

Which chip was chosen changed more than speed. The base M3 had two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports and started with 8GB of memory, while the M3 Pro models had three Thunderbolt 4 ports and 18GB, and the M3 Max started at 36GB.

Space black was introduced here, a dark aluminium finish Apple kept for the M3 Pro and M3 Max models. The base 14-inch came in space gray or silver instead, so silver was the only finish the two 14-inch models shared.

Apple rated the base model at 22 hours of movie playback against 18 hours for the 14-inch with M3 Pro or M3 Max, so the cheapest 14-inch lasted the longest. The 16-inch matched the base model at 22 hours.

The Liquid Retina XDR display stayed at 14.2 inches and 3024 by 1964, reaching 1600 nits at its brightest for HDR, with SDR content now at 600 nits, which Apple put at 20 per cent brighter than before.

Apple discontinued the 13-inch MacBook Pro that day, the last Mac to carry a touch bar, just over seven years after it was introduced on the 2016 MacBook Pro.

It was announced on 30 October 2023 at the ‘Scary Fast’ event, which Apple shot on an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Orders opened the same day, while it was released to shops on 7 November, priced from $1,599.
