Notes

Apple sold the MacBook Pro (M1 Pro / M1 Max) from $1,999, in two chips and two screen sizes. The 14-inch was a new size for the MacBook Pro, sitting above the 13-inch that Apple carried on selling, and the 16-inch started at $2,499. Either size could be specified with the M1 Max instead of the M1 Pro.

MagSafe, the HDMI port and the SDXC card slot all returned after the 2016 redesign had removed them, and physical function keys with a wider escape key replaced the Touch Bar. Three Thunderbolt 4 ports and a headphone jack rounded out the connections, and the finishes were silver and space gray.

The Liquid Retina XDR display was a first for the MacBook Pro, holding 1000 nits across the whole screen and reaching 1600 nits at its brightest for HDR. ProMotion was introduced on the Mac with it, varying the refresh rate up to 120Hz and slowing it when the screen was still.

The camera went to 1080p, which Apple put at double the resolution of the one before it, alongside a six-speaker system it called the best audio in any notebook. Fast charging was introduced on the Mac here too, reaching 50 per cent in about half an hour.

Memory started at 16GB, running to 32GB on the M1 Pro and 64GB on the M1 Max. The 16-inch was rated at up to 21 hours of movie playback and the 14-inch at 17, which Apple called the longest battery life ever on a Mac notebook.

It was announced on 18 October 2021 at the ‘Unleashed’ event. Orders opened the same day, while it was released to shops on 26 October, priced from $1,999.
