Notes

The MacBook Pro with M5 is Apple's professional laptop, sold in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes from $1,599, and this generation reached buyers in two stages rather than one. The 14-inch model with the standard M5 chip went on sale in October 2025, and the more powerful M5 Pro and M5 Max versions did not follow until March 2026, which left the 16-inch model untouched for close to eighteen months.

Nothing about the outside changed. The same aluminium body in space black or silver, the same Liquid Retina XDR screen reaching 1,600 nits at its brightest, the same three Thunderbolt ports, HDMI socket, SD card slot and MagSafe charger that returned to the line in 2021.

Apple put most of its effort into artificial intelligence this time. The company claimed up to four times the AI performance of the M4 models, and up to eight times that of the original M1 machines from 2020, alongside more ordinary gains of around 30 percent for general work and 50 percent for graphics.

Memory is where the three chips separate. The M5 Pro takes up to 64GB and the M5 Max up to 128GB, with the Max moving data at roughly twice the speed, which matters for video editing and other work involving very large files.

Battery life is quoted at up to 24 hours, the highest figure Apple has ever put on a Mac laptop. The camera above the screen is a 12MP Centre Stage one that keeps you in frame as you move about.

It was announced on 15 October 2025 with orders opening the same day, and reached customers on 22 October 2025 at $1,599.
