Notes

The MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display costs $2,899 and is the first Mac you can reach out and touch. The screen uses two OLED panels stacked on top of one another, which Apple calls PROLED XDR, reaching 2,000 nits whether it is showing a film or a spreadsheet.

Contrast runs to ten million to one, and the refresh rate moves between 10Hz and 120Hz depending on what is on screen. Alongside the usual wide colour range it handles Adobe RGB, which matters to anyone preparing work for print.

The glowing Apple logo returned to the lid after ten years away, having been dropped in the 2016 redesign. The notch went as well, replaced by a smaller Dynamic Island borrowed from the iPhone.

Both sizes lost weight. The 14-inch came down to three pounds and the 16-inch to four, which is around half a pound lighter than before, and both are slightly thinner. Battery life is quoted at up to 24 hours. Three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SD card slot, MagSafe and a headphone socket all stayed, as did Touch ID, and the six speakers gained half as much bass again.

It was announced on 28 October 2026 at the ‘Pro and Tell’ event. Pre-orders opened the same day, while it reaches customers and Apple Stores on 6 November, priced from $2,899 for the 14-inch with the M5 Pro chip and rising to $4,799 for the 16-inch with the M5 Max.

Read about the MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), the last one to carry a glowing Apple logo until now.
