Notes

The Apple Watch Series 2 cost $369 and was the first that could be taken into water. Apple rated it to 50 metres for swimming, though not for scuba diving, where the two watches before it had been splash resistant only. The speaker was designed to clear itself of water after a swim.

Built-in GPS was introduced at the same time, so a run could be recorded without an iPhone anywhere nearby. Distance, pace and speed were measured by the watch itself.

The screen reached 1000 nits, which Apple put at more than twice as bright as before, and a new dual-core processor made the Apple Watch Series 2 up to 50% faster. Cases came in aluminium, stainless steel and, for the Edition model, white ceramic, replacing the 18-karat gold Apple Watch Edition that had started at $10,000 a year and a half earlier.

A Nike version was sold alongside it at the same $369, though it did not reach shops until late October.

It was announced on 7 September 2016 at the ‘See you on the 7th’ event. Pre-orders were available from 9 September, while it was released to shops on 16 September, priced from $369.
