Notes
The iPod nano (3rd generation) cost $149 and changed shape completely. Apple made it shorter and wider than the nano before it so a two-inch screen would fit, and the result was squat enough that people took to calling it the fat nano.
Video playback arrived on the nano with this generation. The screen ran at 320 by 240 and was 65 per cent brighter than the one it replaced, which was enough for five hours of video, and the dock connector could send pictures out to a television.
Cover Flow came across from iTunes, so albums could be flipped through by their sleeves using the click wheel. Three games came loaded on the iPod nano (3rd generation), a trivia game called iQuiz, a game of solitaire and a brick-breaker called Vortex, with Tetris, Sudoku and Ms. PAC-MAN available from the iTunes Store within the month.
Colour depended on which one you bought. The 4GB came in silver alone at $149, while the 8GB at $199 came in silver, black, blue, green or a red special edition, and a pink version joined it in January 2008. Music playback stayed at 24 hours, and the weight went up from 1.41 ounces to 1.74.
It was announced on 5 September 2007 at the ‘The Beat Goes On’ event. It went on sale worldwide the same day, priced from $149.
