Notes
The iPod nano (6th generation) cost $149 and was a small aluminium square with a clip on the back and a touchscreen taking up the whole front. The click wheel went after five years, and with it went the camera, the speaker, the microphone and the ability to play video at all.
What was left was controlled by touch. Tapping and swiping moved through songs and playlists, holding a finger down went back to the home screen, and two fingers turned the picture round if the nano was clipped on upside down.
The screen measured 1.54 inches against the 2.2 inches of the nano before it, so this was a smaller display rather than a larger one. The body came down to roughly half the size and weight of the previous generation, at 21 grams.
An FM radio with live pause carried over, along with the pedometer, Nike+ support and shake to shuffle, and music playback still ran to 24 hours. Seven colours were offered, with the red iPod nano (6th generation) sold only by Apple itself, and in October 2011 the prices came down to $129 and $149.
It was announced on 1 September 2010 at Apple’s autumn music event. It reached shops the following week on 7 September, priced from $149.
