Notes
The iPod nano (5th generation) cost $149 and had a video camera on the back, which no iPod had carried before. It shot at 640 by 480 with a set of effects built in, among them one that made everything look like a thermal image, though it could not take a still photograph at all.
A microphone and a speaker went in with it, so a video could be played back on the nano itself rather than only on a computer. The screen grew from two inches to 2.2 and the case was polished rather than matte, while the size and weight stayed where they were.
An FM radio arrived, which could be paused for up to fifteen minutes and could tag a song to buy later. A pedometer counted steps and worked out calories burned, and VoiceOver would read out the track and artist through the headphones.
Nine colours were offered again, though two of them were harder to get. Yellow and the red special edition were sold only by Apple itself, while the other seven went to resellers as well. The 16GB iPod nano (5th generation) cost $179, twenty dollars less than the same size had cost a year before.
It was announced on 9 September 2009 at Apple’s ‘It’s Only Rock and Roll’ event. It went on sale worldwide the same day, priced from $149.
