Notes

The iPod nano (7th generation) cost $149 and looked like a small iPod touch. A 2.5-inch touchscreen took up most of the front with a home button below it, the click wheel was gone for good, and so was the clip that the square nano before it had been built around.

Bluetooth went in for the first time on a nano, which meant wireless headphones and car stereos worked without a cable. The Lightning connector replaced the 30-pin dock connector that every iPod had used since 2003.

At 5.4mm thick it was the thinnest iPod Apple ever made, and music playback ran to 30 hours, up from 24. Video came back after the square nano had done without it, though only for three and a half hours at a time.

Eight colours were offered at launch: slate, silver, purple, pink, yellow, green, blue and a red edition. Slate became space grey a year later, and in July 2015 the iPod nano (7th generation) lost purple, yellow and green, gained gold, and carried on in that form until Apple stopped selling it.

It was announced on 12 September 2012 at the ‘It’s almost here’ event, where the iPhone 5 was the main business. It reached shops in October, priced at $149.
