Notes
The iPod nano (2nd generation) cost $149 and doubled the storage at every price. The cheapest held 2GB where the old cheapest had held 1GB, and the $199 model went from 2GB to 4GB, with a new 8GB version at the top for $249.
Anodised aluminium replaced the plastic front, in the same sort of colours Apple had used on the iPod mini two years earlier. The screen stayed an inch and a half across but was brighter, and the scratching that had dogged the first nano stopped being a complaint.
Battery life went from 14 hours to 24. Nothing else about the layout changed: the same click wheel below the same screen, in a body of almost exactly the same size, at 1.41 ounces.
Colour depended on how much you spent. The 2GB iPod nano (2nd generation) came in silver only, the 4GB in silver, pink, green or blue, and the 8GB in black only. A red one followed in October at $199 for 4GB, with $10 from each sale going to the Global Fund for HIV and AIDS work in Africa.
It was announced on 12 September 2006 at the ‘It’s Showtime’ event. It went on sale worldwide the same day, priced from $149.
