Notes

Apple sold the MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2008) in two versions: $1,999 for a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo with 2GB of memory and a 200GB hard drive, or $2,499 for 2.5GHz with a 250GB drive and twice the video memory. Both had a 15.4-inch LED-backlit screen at 1440 by 900.

Multi-Touch gestures came to the MacBook Pro here, and Apple made it the headline of the announcement. Pinch, rotate and swipe worked on the trackpad, which Apple said it had first put on the MacBook Air six weeks earlier.

Memory was 2GB on both models and could be taken to 4GB. That was the ceiling on the MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2008), and the 15-inch line reached 32GB ten years later, eight times as much, on a screen that never changed size.

An NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT handled graphics, with 256MB of video memory on the cheaper model and 512MB on the dearer one, and the processor could be taken to 2.6GHz to order.

An ExpressCard/34 slot took expansion cards, and the machine carried Dual Link support so it could drive Apple’s 30-inch Cinema HD Display. Alongside those were a Gigabit Ethernet socket, an 8x SuperDrive that could write double-layer discs, 802.11n wireless, Bluetooth, an iSight camera and an 85W MagSafe charger.

It was the last 15-inch MacBook Pro before Apple rebuilt the body from a single block of aluminium. That replacement came on 14 October 2008, eight months later, with a glass trackpad that had no button and a Mini DisplayPort in place of the old video socket, and it started at exactly the same $1,999.

It was announced on 26 February 2008, by press release rather than at an event. It went on sale the same day, priced from $1,999.
