Notes

Apple sold the MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2007) in two versions: $1,999 for a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo with a 120GB hard drive and 128MB of video memory, or $2,499 for 2.4GHz with 160GB and 256MB. Both came with 2GB of memory that could be taken to 4GB.

An LED-backlit screen was introduced on the MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2007), the first in any Apple notebook. Apple called it a brand-new, power-efficient display and said this was the industry’s first 15-inch LED-backlit screen. Part of the reason was environmental, because LED backlighting let Apple leave out the mercury that the fluorescent tubes in older screens contained.

The 17-inch model sold alongside it did not get the new screen. At $2,799 it kept the older backlighting, so for a while the cheaper machine had the better display technology.

An NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT handled graphics across the line, with 128MB of video memory on the cheaper 15-inch and 256MB on the dearer one, which Apple said gave more realistic graphics for animation and games.

Apple put the machine at more than 50 per cent faster than the original MacBook Pro of 2006, though its own footnote said that figure came from estimated results on a pre-production model rather than finished testing.

Apple replaced it on 26 February 2008, when Multi-Touch gestures came to the MacBook Pro trackpad and the hard drives grew, at the same $1,999 and $2,499.

It was announced on 5 June 2007, by press release rather than at an event. It went on sale the same day, priced from $1,999.
