Notes

Apple sold the MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) from $2,199, with 8GB of memory, 256GB of storage and four processor cores, or $2,799 for a faster processor, 16GB of memory and 512GB.

This was the only model in the announcement that did not get cheaper. Apple took $200 off the 13-inch Retina model and cut the MacBook Air price as well, while the 15-inch kept its price and received faster processors instead.

Storage stopped at 768GB. The MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) came with 256GB or 512GB as standard and could be ordered with 768GB, and the ceiling only became a round 1TB on the model that replaced it.

Two Thunderbolt sockets carried up to 10Gbps each, which was the original version of the port. This was the last 15-inch MacBook Pro to use it, because Thunderbolt 2 was introduced eight months later on the model that replaced it and doubled the figure.

Intel HD Graphics 4000 handled the everyday work, with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M and its own gigabyte of memory switching in when a program needed more. The model that followed moved to a GT 750M with twice that.

A MagSafe 2 charger, two Thunderbolt sockets, two rectangular USB ports, an HDMI socket, an SD card slot and a headphone jack sat along the sides, above a full-size keyboard of 78 keys. The battery held 95 watt-hours, rated at up to 7 hours of web browsing, and the machine weighed 4.46 pounds.

Apple replaced it on 22 October 2013 with a model that brought Thunderbolt 2, faster wireless and faster storage, and cut the price to $1,999 at the same time, so this one was on sale for a little over eight months.

It was announced on 13 February 2013, by press release rather than at an event. It went on sale the same day, in Apple’s online store and its retail shops together, priced from $2,199.
