Notes

Apple sold the MacBook Pro 15-inch (2019) from $2,399, which bought a 15.4-inch screen, 16GB of memory and a choice of six or eight processor cores. It turned out to be the last 15-inch MacBook Pro Apple made, closing a size that had been in the range since the first MacBook Pro of 2006.

Eight processor cores were introduced on the MacBook Pro 15-inch (2019). Cores are the separate units inside a processor that divide the work between them, so a machine with eight can handle more at once than one with six. Apple called the result the fastest Mac notebook it had ever made.

The butterfly keyboard was changed again, for the fourth time, with the key switches remade in a different material to stop keys repeating themselves or doing nothing at all. Apple did not mention any of this in its announcement. On the same day it widened its free keyboard repair programme to cover every laptop fitted with a butterfly keyboard, which included the machine it had just put on sale.

The screen stayed at 15.4 inches and 2880 by 1800, with 500 nits of brightness and True Tone. Four Thunderbolt 3 ports and a headphone jack were the only connections. The battery held 83.6 watt-hours, rated at up to 10 hours of web browsing or video playback.

Memory could be taken to 32GB and storage to 4TB. Stereo speakers handled the sound and there were three microphones. It came in silver and space gray and weighed just over four pounds.

Apple removed it from sale on 13 November 2019, under six months after it arrived, when the 16-inch model took its place and the 15-inch size left the range for good.

It was announced on 21 May 2019, by press release rather than at an event. It went on sale the same day through apple.com, while Apple Stores and resellers received it later that week, priced from $2,399.
