Notes

The iPhone 15 Pro was Apple's smaller professional phone at $999, and it was the first iPhone built around titanium, replacing the polished stainless steel frame the Pro models had used since 2017. The result was noticeably lighter in the hand, with a brushed finish offered in black, white, blue and natural titanium.

The ring/silent switch went after sixteen years on every iPhone. In its place came the Action button, a physical button that could be set to mute the phone as before, or to open the camera, start a voice memo, turn on the torch or run a shortcut of your own.

Lightning went too, replaced by USB-C. On the Pro models the port ran at USB 3 speeds, which Apple rated at up to twenty times faster than the old connector, enough to move large video files straight onto an external drive.

The A17 Pro chip was the first processor in any phone built on a 3-nanometre process, which is a measure of how tightly the circuits are packed. Its most visible benefit was hardware ray tracing, allowing console games to run with realistic lighting and reflections.

Storage ran from 128GB up to 1TB, and the main camera stayed at 48MP but now produced 24MP images by default, a compromise between detail and file size.

It was announced on 12 September 2023, with pre-orders from 15 September, and reached customers on 22 September 2023 at $999.
