Notes
The iPhone 15 was Apple's standard phone at $799, and it was the first iPhone in eleven years that did not charge over Lightning. Apple replaced its own connector with USB-C, the same socket already used by iPads, Macs and almost every Android phone, after European law required a common charging port.
Most of what arrived here had been reserved for the Pro models the year before. The Dynamic Island, the cut-out at the top of the screen that stretches and shrinks around alerts and live activities, came down from the iPhone 14 Pro. So did the 48MP main camera, which also allowed a 2x zoom cropped from the middle of the sensor.
The back glass changed as well, with colour infused through the material rather than painted on, finished with a soft matt texture. Five colours were offered: pink, yellow, green, blue and black.
The A16 Bionic chip came from the previous year's Pro models, continuing Apple's habit of handing last year's Pro processor to this year's standard phone. Storage ran from 128GB to 512GB.
It was announced on 12 September 2023, with pre-orders from 15 September, and reached customers on 22 September 2023 at $799.
