Notes

The iPhone 12 Pro Max was Apple's largest phone at $1,099, and for the first time the bigger Pro was not simply a bigger screen. Its main camera used a larger sensor that gathered more light, and its telephoto lens reached further, at a 65mm focal length against the 52mm of the iPhone 12 Pro. Apple reversed that split a year later, giving both iPhone 13 Pro models identical cameras.

At 6.7 inches the screen was the largest Apple had put on an iPhone to that point. The LiDAR scanner was here too, mapping a room with pulses of invisible light to help the camera focus in the dark.

The frame was stainless steel with flat edges, a departure from the rounded sides used since 2014, with the Ceramic Shield front cover Apple rated at four times better drop performance than the iPhone 11.

MagSafe was introduced. This is a ring of magnets that aligns a wireless charger by itself. Apple used this name which had been retired from its MacBooks in 2016.

Four finishes were offered, graphite, silver, gold and pacific blue, with 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of storage, and no charger or EarPods in the box.

It was announced on 13 October 2020 at the 'Hi, Speed' event, with pre-orders from 6 November, and reached customers on 13 November 2020 at $1,099.
