Notes

At $1,099 the iPhone 11 Pro Max was the largest and most expensive of the three phones Apple announced that September. The 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR screen ran at 2688 by 1242 pixels, the same size and resolution as the iPhone XS Max before it, so what changed was brightness and contrast rather than sharpness.

The phone weighed 226g, more than any iPhone Apple had made, against 208g for the iPhone XS Max and 194g for the iPhone 11. Some of that went on the third camera. The iPhone 11 Pro Max had an ultra wide, a wide and a telephoto arranged in a square housing on a back milled from a single piece of textured matte glass, set in a polished stainless steel band.

Battery life was where the size paid off. Apple rated it at 20 hours of video playback and said it lasted up to five hours longer in a day than the iPhone XS Max, the largest gain it claimed for any phone that year. The A13 Bionic chip was shared with both of the other models, as was Night mode, and the water rating was IP68 to four metres for thirty minutes.

Finishes were midnight green, gold, silver and space grey, in 64GB, 256GB and 512GB, and an 18W fast charger came in the box.

It was announced on 10 September 2019 at the 'By innovation only' event in the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park, went up for pre-order on 13 September and reached shops on 20 September, priced from $1,099.
