Notes

The iPhone 13 Pro Max was Apple's largest phone at $1,099, and Apple claimed it would last about two and a half hours longer through a day than the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the biggest jump in battery life the company had quoted for any iPhone.

The 6.7-inch screen could refresh up to 120 times a second, a first for iPhone, sliding down as low as 10 when the picture was still. Apple called it ProMotion and it had been an iPad feature since 2017.

The cameras were the same set as the smaller 13 Pro, which had not been true the year before, when the Pro Max got a better main camera all to itself. Both now had a 3x telephoto, an ultra wide with autofocus for macro shots, and a main camera with the largest sensor Apple had fitted to an iPhone.

ProRes video arrived later in the year, giving the phone a recording format professional editing software could work with directly.

Storage reached 1TB for the first time on any iPhone, alongside 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. Four finishes were offered: graphite, gold, silver and the new sierra blue.

It was announced on 14 September 2021, with pre-orders from 17 September, and reached customers on 24 September 2021 at $1,099.
