Notes

The iPhone 12 Pro was Apple's smaller professional phone at $999, and it was the first iPhone with a LiDAR scanner. The sensor fires invisible pulses of light and times how long they take to return, building a map of the room, which let the camera focus far faster in the dark and gave augmented reality apps a sense of depth.

The name MagSafe returned here too. Apple had used it for the magnetic charging connector on MacBooks from 2006 until 2016, and brought it back for a ring of magnets in the back of the phone that lines up a charger by itself.

A stainless steel frame with flat edges replaced the rounded aluminium of the iPhone 11 Pro, alongside the new Ceramic Shield front cover Apple rated at four times better drop performance.

The three cameras included the telephoto at a 52mm focal length, and this phone introduced Apple ProRAW, a format giving photographers the detail of a raw file while keeping Apple's own processing.

Four finishes were offered, graphite, silver, gold and pacific blue, with storage starting at 128GB and reaching 512GB. Like the rest of the range it shipped without a charger or EarPods.

It was announced on 13 October 2020 at the 'Hi, Speed' event, with pre-orders from 16 October, and reached customers on 23 October 2020 at $999.
