Notes

Apple used the word Pro on an iPhone for the first time with the iPhone 11 Pro, which cost $999. The name had been on Macs and iPads for years, and what justified it here was mostly the camera. Three lenses sat on the back in a square housing, an ultra wide, a wide and a telephoto, where the iPhone 11 had two and the iPhone XR a year earlier had one.

The screen was new as well. Apple called it Super Retina XDR, a 5.8-inch OLED running at 2436 by 1125 pixels, brighter and with deeper contrast than the panel on the iPhone XS. The back was a single piece of glass with a textured matte finish, milled rather than polished, held in a polished stainless steel band. A new colour came with it, midnight green, alongside gold, silver and space grey.

The iPhone 11 Pro was rated IP68 to four metres for thirty minutes, twice the depth of the iPhone 11. It ran the same A13 Bionic chip as the cheaper phone and carried an ultra wideband chip for working out precisely where other devices were. Apple said it lasted up to four hours longer in a day than the iPhone XS, at 18 hours of video playback.

One thing came in the box that never had before and never did again. Apple included an 18W USB-C fast charger rather than the 5W adapter it had shipped for years, and from the iPhone 12 there was no adapter in the box at all.

It was announced on 10 September 2019 at the 'By innovation only' event in the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park, went up for pre-order on 13 September and reached shops on 20 September, priced from $999.
