Notes

The iPhone 13 Pro was Apple's smaller professional phone at $999, and it was the first iPhone with a screen that could refresh 120 times a second. Apple called it ProMotion and had been using it on iPads since 2017, which made this one of the longest waits for an iPad feature to reach the phone.

The refresh rate is not fixed. It slides anywhere between 10 and 120 times a second depending on what is on screen, running fast while you scroll and dropping right down on a still page, which is how Apple kept the battery life respectable despite the faster display.

Every camera changed. The ultra wide gained autofocus, which also turned it into a macro camera able to photograph things almost touching the lens. The telephoto stretched from 2x to 3x. The main camera took in considerably more light, helped by the largest sensor Apple had put in an iPhone.

For video, Cinematic mode shifted focus between subjects automatically, and ProRes recording arrived later in the year for people editing footage properly rather than posting it straight from the phone.

A 1TB storage option appeared for the first time on any iPhone, alongside 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. Four finishes were offered: graphite, gold, silver and the new sierra blue.

It was announced on 14 September 2021, with pre-orders from 17 September, and reached customers on 24 September 2021 at $999.
