Notes

The iPhone 14 Pro Max was Apple's largest phone at $1,099, with a 6.7-inch screen that was the first on any iPhone able to stay switched on when idle, showing the time and wallpaper at reduced brightness rather than going black.

The notch was removed, replaced by the Dynamic Island. Apple still needed room for the Face ID sensors, so instead of hiding the cut-out it made it part of the software, a black pill that stretches and shrinks around timers, calls and music.

Behind the main camera sat a 48MP sensor, the first increase from 12MP since 2015. Photos still came out at 12MP by default, with four pixels combined into one for cleaner low-light shots, and the full resolution available through ProRAW.

Apple quoted up to 29 hours of video playback for this model, the longest battery life of any iPhone at the time, helped by the larger body.

Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via satellite both arrived with this generation. Four finishes were offered, deep purple, silver, gold and space black, with storage from 128GB to 1TB.

It was announced on 7 September 2022, with pre-orders from 9 September, and reached customers on 16 September 2022 at $1,099.
